Blues on the Ukulele – Led by Steve, discover how to bring the blues to life on your uke! Learn classic blues chord patterns, rhythmic grooves, and techniques that give the blues its signature sound. We’ll jam along to some fun, well-known songs to put it all into practice. Strumming & Picking Techniques – Tracy will guide you through essential strumming and finger-picking patterns to make your playing more dynamic and expressive. Whether you want to add depth to your sound or explore new styles, these skills will help you bring any song to life. This workshop is perfect for all skill levels—whether you’re a beginner looking to build a strong foundation or an experienced player wanting to expand your technique. Bring your ukulele, and let’s have some fun making music together! Steve & Tracy bring a lifetime of musical experience and passion to this ukulele workshop. Steve is an accomplished pianist & guitarist who first picked up the ukulele at age 8. With a deep love for music and ministry, he spent 37 years as a United Methodist pastor while continuing to play and share his musical talents. Now retired, he enjoys pickleball, spending time with his wife and 6 grandkids, and, of course, making music. Tracy is a 39-year veteran music educator who primarily taught elementary music. At age 9, she first learned the ukulele from her dad, who only knew the finger positions—not the actual chord names! It wasn’t until she began teaching music in schools that she realized those positions had names and meaning. Throughout her career, she taught tens of thousands of students in general music classes and private lessons, covering voice, piano, guitar, ukulele, recorder, and drums. After retiring from music education, Tracy became a full-time health coach, transforming her own life by losing 137 pounds and now helping others on their health journeys. Together, Steve & Tracy bring a fun, relaxed, and engaging approach to teaching the ukulele, making it accessible and enjoyable for all skill levels. |

TOOL KIT 101 - In this beginner class, you will learn ukulele basics: parts, strings and notes, reading chord charts, strumming techniques, and finding music. You’ll also learn a few easy songs and receive some great resources for beginners. Bring all your questions and start your ukulele journey here!
TOOL KIT 102 - In this class, you will continue practicing the techniques we reviewed in Toolkit 101. Together, we will practice and play several songs using C, F, G/G7, and Am chords. We will also look at simple songs incorporating new chords, and try strategies for conquering any challenges that are foolish enough to face you and your developing ukulele skills. Christy Jacobs is an elementary music teacher, private instructor, pianist, and organist who has been playing ukulele casually for five years. She spends most of her ukulele time teaching young people to gain confidence in playing simple chords and fun songs. In her rare moments of free time, she occasionally attempts fingerstyle folk songs and Led Zeppelin ballads, but her short attention span means a lot of half-learned songs in her lineup. She loves helping new musicians find the confidence to enjoy making music, whatever their skill level, and believes everyone has music to share if they can just find the right way to express it. |

EASY FINGER PICKING - learn to use fun and easy picking patterns that will bring your Ukulele playing more interesting and enjoyable.
Patsy has played ukulele since the fall of 2018. She is self-taught, and also enjoys getting some help from some of her favorite YouTube teachers. When Patsy retired from her 34-year career as elementary school teacher in 2017, she decided to pick up the ukulele which she calls her “retirement instrument”. Playing it by herself brings her joy but finds it is even more fun when shared with others. So she started a group called The Stansbury Park Ukes. She has also participated in a Facebook group called “100 Days of Ukulele” in 2020, 2021, and 2022. As all of you who play know; one ukulele usually isn’t enough, so she has acquired a few. Her hope is to continue to learn and grow through many years to come. |

Kathy Jones

EASY CHORD MELODY & Alternate Fingering - In Kathy's class you will learn how to work out a chord melody for a favorite song in addition to easy 2nd and 3rd position chord fingering to add pizzazz to your ukulele playing!
Kathy is from Salt Lake Strummers and she says: "I was introduced to the ukulele in 2017 by the music therapists at Primary Children’s Hospital where I worked as a nurse. I wanted a small, easy-to-learn instrument to take camping, and they handed me a ukulele to try out. It was love at first strum, and I’ve never looked back. The ukulele has been so much fun, and it has unlocked the musician that was hiding inside me. I was lucky enough to find the Salt Lake Strummers and Garden Park ukulele groups to help me learn and progress on my musical journey. I play in my church worship band every Sunday, and when I retired from Primary Children’s Hospital after 32 years, I stayed on as a music volunteer. The ukulele is truly a little instrument of joy!"
